Today we will review general camera functions as well as identify and apply advanced camera functions by responding to discussion board questions.
Advanced Features Annotation Tools Use this tool to write or draw on a frozen or still image. Use the features on the menu to help apply tools to the image. Tools include solid dots, lines, open circles and square, text box, pencil, fine erase and restart. Also, the line width and color change will impact the tools.
Capturing Still Images

Place object or document that want a picture of underneath the document camera. Preview what it looks like on the screen and adjust the position of the object or document and use auto focus feature. Then, click on the camera button to take the picture. A menu will appear so that you can save your picture in a desired location ( which is using My Document folder- awesome folder but cannot reach it from home.) To use the picture, use the insert function found in Microsoft Office programs Time Lapse Photography This tool can be used to take pictures in designated increments over a period of time. Think of how this can be used so that your students are able to watch something that has changed over time ( like a plant growing). Decide where the file should be saved and how it should be named. Then set the time for when the capturing should begin. Finally, decide the time lapse settings which means how often, how long or how many total frames.
Freeze Live Image
This feature is used to freeze the current image. This feature would allow you to keep the current picture up of the document or object even after it as been removed. Position the object or document in the desired location and click the picture to freeze the image. This image is not saved but annotation tools can be used on this picture.
Record Live Images
This feature allows you to record as if it was a normal video camera. Simply click, decide where you will be storing file and what to name the file. Below is an example of a video without sound using the camera.
To incorporate sound, you need to make sure your computer is tested for sound. Go to the control panel and click on "sounds and audio devices". On the first tab of the window under volume, make sure the volume is not muted. Under the audio and voice tab, make sure your screen matches this one. Once that has been done, under the voice tab select test hardware. Follow the directions for the microphone and speech test. Now your computer should be set up. Next to set up the ActiView software!
To set up the software for the document camera for sound and video file type click this button on the general ActiView menu. Decide the file compression type ( important if you want to edit the video since certain programs only edit in certain file types) and click enable. For audio, click enable and make sure volume is set high. It will give you a message saying it will need to have the software reinstalled by an adminstrator. Click OK and ignore. Now go back to the above steps and record and enjoy! You may need to turn the volume up high to record and hear what was recorded. If you have an external microphone then the process is slightly different where under the audio tab and audo recording part of the window make sure the kind of external microphone is selected. Most new microphones have the plug and play option meaning the computer will recognize the device and should automatically use the device but at least you know where you need to look if it is not looking. If having issues, make sure volumes are turned high and mute is not on!
